Suitability:
Sam has an unwavering sense of needing to help people in trouble. Whether he gets attached to the Thorne story and makes the decision to stay and help, or he finds himself wanting to protect the other people who have been brought here, Sam is not the type to step back when injustice is being dealt and he will, no matter the situation or politics, step in and do what he thinks is right. In addition to his belief in that justice is the fact that Sam is a soldier - he has seen war both in the normal, Earth-sense, and also what intergalactic wars can be. If there is a warfront, he will most likely be on it. Or if there are missions that need to be done, he will find a way there. His more recently promotion to Captain America has only brought with Sam's unwavering belief in justice a sense of responsibility to step up. Now, it is his problem to solve, or if not solve, then pick away at. Steve was a leader of the Avengers for a reason, and while Sam is no Steve Rogers, he is Captain America. And he has no fear when it comes to stepping up for what is right and protecting those who need it most.

PERSONALITY QUESTIONS

Describe an important event in your character's life and how it impacted them.
It is extraordinarily difficult to talk about who Sam is today, both as Sam Wilson and also Captain America, without making mention of his meeting, and subsequently following, Steve Rogers. Prior to the famous on your left, Sam had been making his life work. After the loss of his partner and co-pilot Riley in an accident while stationed abroad, Sam had come back home to work at the VA. He preferred it in a lot of ways, stating that there were a lot fewer people giving orders, but deep down he had been a bit lost. Trying to help vets who had returned from the war find a place in their life again. Trying to help people in a way that felt meaningful, for people that it felt a lot like the government forgot. That the world forgot.

Meeting Captain America was not what Sam might have expected it to be - Steve was, in a lot of ways, just a dude. Just a soldier, feeling lost and alone, now that he'd come home. Sam could tell the second they met that there was a lot more going on there, and a lot more that most people might not be looking for. He just didn't think it would be enough to have Captain America show up at the VA, or, not long after, his own back door. But that's the thing, when you connect with someone like that - when you get the feeling of who they actually are, without the title. It starts feeling a lot like you know them, and if Sam gets to know anyone at all, well. That's kind of it.

He volunteered into Steve's fight almost immediately, a path that would eventually make him a fugitive, an Avenger, one of the Blipped, and finally, Captain America. But more than any of that, meeting Steve Rogers inspired Sam back into a place of realizing that fighting to protect is not a lost cause. That there are people out there, a lot of them, who aren't able to do it for themselves. Because of Steve, Sam found himself in a place where he could help when an insane alien showed up and decided to get rid of half the universe. A place where he could do something when a misguided kid went a little too far, mostly because she'd been pushed. Meeting Steve Rogers changed Sam's life - yes - but it was the example, the experience, and the man who left the impression. A legacy that is changing, now, but that Sam realizes can, and has to, adapt to the people it's mean to protect.

Does your character have a moral code, or other set of standards they try to live by?
Absolutely. And for a long time, it had been something a little different - driven by the idea, the passion, to go out there and change the world, Sam had left home early to join the Air Force. To get assigned to a program that would give him wings. It wasn't until he met Steve Rogers, until he became an Avenger, that his code started to shift a little bit - to hone to be a bit more specific. These days, Sam is driven by the need to help people, and a code and set of rules that is directed by that simple need. To protect and to help. To speak up for those who can't. Not everyone has the platform like he does, or the experience, or the chance - and while for a bit there he'd been convinced he didn't need to do it that way, he's now come around to it. To what he can change, and do, and how many people he can help, when he's got the shield.

And that's what matters most to him. That is the code he lives by. People, above all else.

What quality or qualities do they admire most?
Sam is driven by, and attracted to, a strong moral foundation that is motivated by helping people. These generally take the form of honorable, loyal, dedicated, determined, big-hearted, and empathetic. These are the things that brought him to the place of following Steve Rogers without question, the things that eventually led him to want to take up the shield himself. The urge to help people is, as far as Sam is concerned, the most important quality a person can have, and while he wishes that road was a lot less complicated than it was, Sam tries to live each and every day he has by it. And sometimes it's not easy, and sometimes the governmental bodies or councils in power don't always agree, but that doesn't mean Sam is going to stop fighting or stop trying.

Do they have a part of themselves they dislike?
One thing about Sam that at times he wishes he could change, or at the very least that he wished he didn't end up spending so much time with himself on, is the way he finds himself second-guessing decisions that he makes. It is not a matter of making the decision that Sam struggles with, but rather the time afterward where he wonders whether or not it was really the best route to take. It's something he does not show others, much if at all, but it is something he catches himself doing. He knows where it is rooted, why he finds himself wondering if he shouldn't have done it differently, if he should have gone in another direction, if he should have just taken the shield from the beginning and saved them all a lot of headaches - but he does what he thinks is right, every time. Whether or not it ends up the best choice, it's the one he believes is right, and that's all he can do.

What is their sign, and why? justice - because while so much of sam's life has been him figuring out what that means and how it's defined, he's dedicated and motivated by finding it for others. by stepping in and fighting for those who would otherwise be looked over.
